The purpose of TxPS is to raise awareness of soft pastel art and to provide support for pastel artists. All member pastelists will have the opportunity to acquire skills as soft pastels artists through experience, study, observation, and shared knowledge. TxPS will program meetings, demos, paint-outs, museum field trips, gallery walks, workshops, lectures, area exhibitions, all-member shows, and juried competitions. The Texas Pastel Society meets on the first Tuesday of the month from 7-9 p.m. in the Gallery of the Coppini Academy of Fine Arts, 115 Melrose Pl., San Antonio, Texas.(meetings are subject to change, check the calendar for meeting updates)

The Coppini was founded in 1945 at Trinity University by the late Pompeo Coppini, DFA, internationally famous sculptor, who endowed the Academy with an estate dedicated to the encouragement of worthy accomplishments in the field of classic art. The original name of Classic Arts Fraternity was changed to Coppini Academy of Fine Arts in 1950 in honor of the founder. During his long active career, Dr. Coppini created numerous public monuments, landscape groups, statues, and bas reliefs and inspired many students, among those being his protegee, Waldine A. Tauch, DFA, Sculptor. Among his best known works are the Alamo Heroes Cenotaph in San Antonio and the Littlefield Memorial Fountain in Austin. Presently the Academy is an active place of learning.
